Fragrant
Sometimes delicate and sometimes spicy, the wafting scent of peonies is often fresh, soft, and slightly fruity, others though quite beautiful to look at, can be malodorous.
Not all peonies smell the same, ranging widely from classic floral sweetness or warm spicy complex notes such as nutmeg and cloves to no scent at all.
Hybridizers focus on the beauty of the flower, lasting quality, plant habit and disease resistance, but all too often fragrance falls to the side, sometimes breed specifically and primarily for visual beauty, forgetting about fragrance.
If a peony is listed as fragrant on this site, it has been selected carefully with scent in mind, sure to captivate with their elegant versatile bouquet.
