Edgy Magenta

$300.00

Edgy Magenta, a brand new bomb double cultivar this year, offers not only a strong, vibrant color that will create an outstanding visual for your landscape, but also a remarkable fragrance wafting through the air. Opening in magenta, as the bloom reaches its crescendo, a slight frosting at the margins.

Description

Edgy Magenta is a fragrant, bomb double flower that opens magenta, of intense, luminous shade that is seen from afar, beckoning for admiration. The flower segments are evenly pigmented with a stable color that does not fade as the flower matures to senescence. Fully opened flowers may display a slight frosting at the margins; the petal segments however withstand full sunlight without fading or burning. A double layer of petals holds a large center ball of petalodes.

In center, well hidden by the segments, the gynoecium consists of four pale green, piliferous carpels and light magenta, elongated, near petaloid stigmas. The androecium is fully transformed and absent. The petalodes are long, narrow, and furled, the dorsal end notched, forming acute tips. Thus, bestowing an intense, edgy appearance to the flower. Generously furnished with petal segments, the inflorescence is of unusual, yet desirable form, and excellent substance. Side buds, one to two per stem, start opening while the main flower is still in bloom, extending the bloom season.

The plant habit of the bush is notable, above average for landscape application. The plant is vigorous and fast to increase. The clump will form a sizable medium height bush within four years after planting. Edgy Magenta is a dependable bloomer with generous color on an attractive bush that will provide good structure to a mixed border even after blooming. The bush holds its form well and the stems support the opened flower in open field conditions. Staking is unnecessary if grown fully exposed to the sun and good growing conditions.

The plant is well clothed in deep olive-green foliage, the leaflets pointed and long in relation to width, remain attractive well into the summer here in NW Missouri. It furnishes fine stems for the vase, and it is a desirable choice for the cut flower garden. Edgy Magenta performs well in the sunny border or mixed perennial beds requiring little care. Here in NW Missouri the foliage remains clean from mildew, with only negligent instances of black-spot toward the end of summer.

Edgy Magenta boasts improvements over the existing varieties such as flower shape, color, fragrance, and apparent resistance to fungal disease. When in bloom the luminous color is an eye-catcher and the scent is a delight. The qualities of interest to the cut flower trade are a good stem count as well as a flower color, shape, scent, and dependability of bloom.
