Description
Walter Mains is a Japanese flower form, Herbaceous Hybrid peony. The large flower opens dusky deep red. Broad petals surround a boss of narrow staminodes of same color edged in gold. In center, mostly obscured, pale-yellow carpels topped with reddish stigmas. An outstanding flower of excellent form and substance.
Good plant habit, vigorous, grows a spreading, medium height bush. Stout stems, self-supporting and carry flowers well. Dark green foliage remains attractive for most of the growing season. Walter Mains is excellent in the landscape, great choice for the cut flower garden.
