Sweet Millie

$300.00

Sweet Millie is an outstanding ornamental peony, blooming early with vibrant cool red-pink tones that gracefully soften to pale blush as the flowers mature, while delicately lighter petal edges add an elegant finish at every stage.

Description

‘Sweet Millie’, an early-blooming semi-double flower, opens in a cool red-pink, then softens to paler tones as they mature. The petal edges remain delicately lighter at every progressing developmental stage. The parentage history is lost. It is a vigorous variety with good increase, producing large clumps with numerous stems within 4 years after planting. It grows one flower per stem.

The flowers consist of multiple rows of bright pink guard petals surrounding smaller, twisted inner petals, centered by a cluster of stamens and green carpels having red stigmas. The filaments are pale yellow green and the stamens bright yellow. This variety is fertile both ways, producing pollen and seeds. The plant boasts a good habit with ample color on a medium height bush. Strong, upright stems are self-supporting, standing well against inclement weather events. ‘Sweet Millie’ appears to have some resistance to the fungal disease with no evident mildew and little leafspot by late July in this very humid season. This variety exhibits outstanding ornamental attributes, making this a promising choice for the mixed perennial border, as well as a breeding subject for Early period doubling.

General garden and landscape use; perennial border; mass plantings; deer resistant.
