Description

Sunny Day, a large, single form flower opens bright yellow, fading cream color nearly white in sunlight. The pigmentation is longer lasting and more brilliant in cool spring weather. The broad petals are cupped, fluted, and nicely rounded. Two rows of petals surround a large cluster of pollen bearing stamens with anthers bright yellow. In the center of this cluster are green carpels that are topped with red stigmas. This peony has a very satisfying plant habit, vigorous, strong in growth and prolific of increase, maturing quickly to a sizeable clump.

This variety is a reliable bloomer producing ample color on an upright, medium height bush. Long stems are slightly arching but hold well against inclement weather events, typically making staking unnecessary. Strong stems carry the flower and side buds near the foliage imparting a well-proportioned plant structure and floral display.

The foliage is a glossy, medium green but with summer heat and drought could onset a possible decline, making supplemental irrigation and protection from direct midday sun beneficial. It is a great selection for early season color in the flower garden and particularly effective in mass plantings. A unique peony that attracts pollinators and makes a fine addition to a living garden.

Rare variety; general garden and landscape use; attracts pollinators and honey bees; deer resistant.
