Description

Lavon is a fragrant, full double peony. The flower opens bright pink with a golden collar. On mature specimens this collar of yellow staminodes becomes a complete, quite broad ring, separating the rows of the outer petals from the inner flower, resulting in a remarkable symmetry of a “flower in a flower” shape. Packed with petals, the very large flower is of high build, nearly conical form, and heavy substance.

The bush has a below average plant habit, it is vigorous, of a moderate increase, and dependable bloom. It produces ample color on a spreading, very tall bush within a few years of planting. The flower and side buds are born on long stems well above the foliage. The stems sag with the weight of the very large flower. The sprawling bush does not hold its form, requiring appropriate mechanical support. The glossy, green leaves are well formed, of a thick, nearly leathery substance and remain healthy throughout the growing season.

Lavon yields excellent cut stems, the flowers are of exhibition quality. It is an excellent choice for the cut flower garden but challenging in the flower bed.
