Virginia Emerson

$90.00

Virginia Emerson brings bold beauty with large blooms opening in fresh, light pink — full double on mature plants and semi-double on younger stems. Its bright, clean color holds remarkably well, fading little in the sun and finishing with delicately frosted outer petals.

Description

Virginia Emerson is a full double, variable semi-double on younger plants or smaller stems; large, flower opens light pink. The pigment is bright and clean throughout, the color remains quite stable in a normal NW Missouri spring, fading little in the sun, otherwise outer segments frosted by the time petals fall. Broad petals, grade smaller and narrower inward surround a thin ring of stamens found between the two levels of the flower and another surrounding the carpels at center, forming a full flower type. Carpels are softly hairy, usually abortive, only sometimes entire and capable of bringing seeds to maturity.

Petals with excellent substance, the flower is of attractive, well-tailored form. These qualities represent a breeding achievement, that until the recent decade or so, was limited almost entirely to later opening cultivars of the Lactiflora Group. One flower per stem, occasional side bud possible. The plant is vigorous in growth, and gives a good rate of increase. Strong stems of medium to tall height are clothed in lush bluish-green leaflets. The stems stand well against wind and weather, even in the open field. It has a notable combination of attributes which makes it an excellent choice for the perennial border and furnishes fine stems for the vase.

Best Use
General garden and landscape use; perennial border; cut flower garden; deer resistant.

Basic Growing Requirements
