Best Landscaper® 'Tempest'
Originator: (Auten, 1931)
Group: Lactiflora
Bloom period: Late Midseason
Bloom week: 5
Flower form: Double
Height: Semi-dwarf
USDA Zone: 2 to 8
Item number: 0104

Details:
The double, large size flower opens brilliant deep crimson. Many rows of notched and wavy petals loosely arranged, reveal occasionally some yellow stamens. The unfinished, informal form, is still very attractive. This variety has a satisfying plant habit, vigorous and quick increase. A dependable bloomer with plenty of color on a compact, semi-dwarf bush. The wiry stems cast in bronze-red shades, holding the flower and side buds near the foliage canopy, withstanding rain quite well. Staking typically is not needed when grown well and in full sun. It is a peony with a combination of favorable attributes, worthy of a spot in the perennial border and is particularly effective in mass plantings.

Awards, Best Use & Distinctions
Best Landscaper®; novelty variety; general garden and landscape use; perennial border; deer resistant; mass plantings.

Basic Growing Requirements
Full Sun. Water as needed, sensitive to overwatering and waterlog conditions. Soil pH 6.5-7. Fertile, well-draining soil.
