Hollingsworth Peonies^® is a duly registered peony grower and hybridizer in the State of Missouri. We grow and sell a wide assortment of bare root herbaceous peonies (bush peonies) such as Lactiflora group peonies (Chinese type peonies), hybrid peonies, and Itoh hybrids (intersectional hybrids) as well as species such as Fernleaf peonies and Paeonia species selections.

Our peonies are grown in open fields and harvested in late summer through early fall. Bare root peonies do best when planted in the fall. They should be dug, handled, and planted when they are dormant. For this reason, we only deliver in the fall freshly dug, quality bare roots ready to be planted in your garden. All peonies sold are 3 to 5 years old and have flower bud initials at the time of harvest. Many of which may bloom the first year after planting.

Herbaceous peonies are hardy plants that not only withstand but thrive in our harsh Midwest climate with hot humid summers and sub-zero, freezing winters. Our plants are grown according to the IPM protocol and strict exclusion quarantine. We never sell imported roots or plant foreign rootstock in our fields. Our fields, plants and roots are inspected by the Missouri Department of Agriculture and the USDA to ensure the integrity of our program. Our peonies are among the country’s healthiest and toughest varieties available. They are beautiful, award-winning cultivars and simply the best peonies.
