Best Landscaper® 'Scarlet O'Hara'
Origin.:(Glasscock/Falk,1956)
Group: Herbaceous Hybrid
Bloom period: Early Midseason
Bloom week: 3
Flower form: Single
Height: Tall
USDA Zone: 3 to 7
Item number: 3477

Details:

Single, large flower opens brilliant scarlet. The color spectrum may range from rose red to almost maroon depending on growing location and prevailing climatic conditions. Two rows of broad, well-formed petals surround a large yellow cluster composed of many tightly grouped stamens that hold in center inconspicuous, pale carpels and stigmas. The flower is of excellent form, the petals are of thick, waxy substance. Excellent plant habit, vigorous and fast increase, a reliable bloomer with prolific color on a large, tall bush. Strong, very erect stem carries the flower above the foliage canopy. The bush holds well against inclement weather, staking is not required. The foliage is rich, deep green and covers the plant to the bottom of the stems. It is a stout plant apparently tolerant to excessive heat and seems to be doing well in southern growing locations. It is a tough yet handsome variety well suited for a wide range of growing environments and uses. Stunning in a mass planting.

Awards, Best Use & Distinctions
Best Landscaper®; APS Award of Landscape Merit 2009; RHS Award of Garden Merit; heat tolerant; general garden and landscape use; perennial border; deer resistant.

Basic Growing Requirements
Full Sun. Water as needed, sensitive to overwatering and waterlog conditions. Soil pH 6.5-7. Fertile, well-draining soil.
