Best Cut® 'Karl Rosenfield'
Originator: (Rosenfield, 1908)
Group: Lactiflora
Bloom period: Late Midseason
Bloom week: 5 & 6
Flower form: Double
Height: Medium
USDA Zone: 2 to 8
Item number: 1916

Details:

The full double flower opens crimson red. The red pigment is more brilliant upon opening and soon fades to rose-red shades in the sun. Large outer petals surround rows of petals that grade narrower inward. The segments are slightly curled, notched at the margins and loosely arranged revealing some remnant yellow stamens. The fertile flower has pollen and will set seed, it is not fragrant. The bush has a satisfying plant habit, it is vigorous and a dependable bloomer, but somewhat below average to increase here in NW Missouri. It produces an ample amount of color on a large clump. The main flower and side buds are born on long stems well above the foliage of the sprawling, medium height bush. The stems sag with the opened flower and require appropriate support. The bush is well covered with semi-glossy, medium green leaves which remain healthy for most of the growing season. This variety is among a group of attractive early generation, heirloom peonies. The stems are long enough for cutting making it an appropriate choice for the cut flower garden.
