Best Landscaper® 'Nelda's Joy'
Origin.: (Hollingsworth, 2012)
Group: Herbaceous Hybrid
Bloom period: Early
Bloom week: 2 & 3
Flower form: Double
Height: Medium
USDA Zone: 3 to 7
Item number: 3047

Details:

The semi-double flower, full double on mature specimens, opens shell pink to peach shades. The color is most intense toward the center of the flower and the initial bright peach shade at the base of the petals diminishing gradually outward to the edges. The flower eventually fades in the sun to lighter shades by the time the petals drop. The color is more intense and lasts longer in a cool spring. The well-rounded guard petals are broad while the inner segments grade narrower, their ends are lightly serrate to laciniate, suggesting a downy quality. A narrow band of normal, pollen-bearing stamens encircle the inner flower which are obscured in the fully formed double flower. It is a nicely tailored, large flower with good substance, and both the flower type and color are still rare in early opening peonies. The bush boasts an above average plant habit. The growth is vigorous, and the rate of stem multiplication is excellent, growing a large clump within a few years after planting. It produces ample color on a medium height bush. One fragrant flower per stem is borne close enough to the foliage for a well-proportioned presentation. The bush is fully covered with foliage, the color a rich bluish-green. Leaflets are broad, keeled and the ends pointed. The durable foliage is healthy and remains attractive for most of the growing season. The stems are self-supporting, staking is typically not required under normal growing conditions and are just long enough for cutting. This variety yields fine stems for the vase and is an outstanding choice for the cut flower garden and worthy of a focal point in the mixed perennial border.
