Best Landscaper® 'Le Charme'
Originator: (Eliason, 1964)
Group: Lactiflora
Bloom period: Late
Bloom week: 6
Flower form: Japanese
Height: Very Tall
USDA Zone: 2 to 8
Item number: 1414

Details:

The Japanese type of flower opens rose color with a yellow center. The pigmentation is more pronounced in cool spring weather, appearing to be rose-red. This color soon fades in the sun paling to lighter rose and eventually to soft rose-pink shades by the time the petals drop. The broad petals surround a large center of yellow staminodes, the segment’s base highlighted soft rose pink. The staminodes are slender, curved and the edges crimped, almost entirely obscure the diminutive, pale green carpels. It is a large, well-tailored flower, slightly fragrant with good substance, imparting a silky, arty quality throughout. The bush has a very satisfying plant habit, it is vigorous and increases well. It grows into a large clump quite quickly, within a few years of planting. The reliable bloomer is covered in an ample amount of color. Side buds enhance this effect and prolongs the bloom season. The stout, mostly self-supporting stem carries the flowers erect, well above the foliage. This very tall variety is like 'Tropicana' and 'White Innocence' one of the tallest peonies we grow. The bush, however, keeps its shape remarkably well, the presentation unaffected by rain. For those looking for a large bush peony, this variety works well in the landscape and furnishes fine stems for the vase. It is much admired in floral design and complements double pink and yellow-white flowers.
