Best Landscaper® 'John Gardner'
O.: (Gardner/Hanratty, 1958)
Group: Lactiflora
Bloom period: Late Midseason
Bloom week: 5 & 6
Flower form: Japanese
Height: Medium
USDA Zone: 2 to 8
Item number: 2170

Details:

The Japanese flower opens bright, neon purple with a yellow center. Two rows of broad guard petals surround a large cluster of slender staminode segments which obscure the pale-yellow carpels, the stigmas are yellow. The margins of each purple staminode are generously edged in bright yellow. The center cluster is quite dense and the flower segments are of heavy substance. This large flower is nicely tailored and of pleasing form. The bush is of good plant habit, vigorous and quite fast to increase, growing a large clump within a few years of planting. The free flowering bush produces ample color and side buds prolong the bloom season. The stout, self-supporting stem bears the flower near the foliage giving the bush a trim and neat appearance. Support is not required under normal growing conditions. The stems are generously covered in glossy, deep dark green leaflets and the foliage remains healthy well into fall. The boisterous color dominates the presentation which lends itself for a vibrant focal point in the perennial border.
