Best Cut® 'Henry St. Clair'
Originator: (Brand, 1941)
Group: Lactiflora
Bloom period: Late Midseason
Bloom week: 5 & 6
Flower form: Double
Height: Medium
USDA Zone: 2 to 8
Item number: 3430

Details:

The full double flower opens in bright shade of rose-red. The pigmentation is more pronounced in cool spring weather, displaying a burgundy red, nearly purple shade. The clean color is even throughout and the petal edges may be slightly frosted by the time they drop. Broad outer petals surround many layers of segments grading small toward the center. The large flower is nicely furnished with petals that obscure a remnant of yellow, pollen baring stamens. It is a large, well-proportioned flower with good substance. The plant is a good grower in our NW Midwest climate and has a satisfying plant habit. It is vigorous and dependable with ample color on a medium height bush. The main flower and several side buds per stem are presented on long stems well above the foliage. The stems arch with the open flower and the bush require support under normal growing conditions. The plant is well-clad in semi-glossy, deep green foliage, the leaflets remain green well into fall. It boasts an attractive combination of qualities and furnishing stems just long enough for cutting. It is an excellent choice for the cut flower garden and has some utility as a commercial cutter.
