Best Landscaper® 'Gertrude Allen'
O: (Nicholls/Wild & Son, 1958)
Group: Lactiflora
Bloom period: Late Midseason
Bloom week: 5 & 6
Flower form: Anemone
Height: Medium
USDA zone: 2 to 8
Item number: 0101

Details:

The anemone type flower opens pure white with a light-yellow center. Two rows of broad petals surround a large cluster of staminodes, and a set of pale-yellow carpels tipped with dark red stigmas. The segments are of heavy substance, imparting a waxy texture. The color of the staminode segments is more pronounced and longer lasting in cool spring weather but eventually fades to pale yellow, nearly white when petals drop. The segments radiate outward in a level plane, forming a round, low silhouette bloom. The nicely shaped, quite long-lasting flower is of good substance. Numerous side buds extend the bloom season. It is of very satisfying plant habit, free flowering, vigorous, and produces a substantial, medium height bush within a few years of planting. The sturdy stem holds the flower upright and the bush keeps its form quite well against inclement weather events. Staking is typically not needed if grown under normal conditions. The foliage is glossy, dark green and remains attractive throughout the growing season, well into the fall here in NW Missouri. It is an excellent performer in the landscape and a great choice for the cut flower garden.
