Best Fragrant® 'Festiva Maxima'
Originator: (Miellez, 1851)
Group: Lactiflora
Bloom period: Late Midseason
Bloom week: 5 & 6
Flower form: Double
Height: Tall
USDA Zone: 2 to 8
Item number: 0736

Details:

Very fragrant, full double flower opens vailed in pale pink, soon fading to snow white in the sun. Layers of pure white petals grade successively smaller and narrower toward the center while the innermost segments have magenta markings. Generously furnished with petals, the medium size flower is of formal shape and good substance. The bush has a good plant habit and a vigorous and dependable bloomer. It produces copious color on a verdant bush within a few years of planting. This bush is of medium height with flowers sufficiently close to the foliage for a pleasing appearance. However, the stems sprawl with the open flower and require support mechanics for best results. The bush is well-clad in deep green foliage which remains healthy and green for the growing season, well into fall here in NW Missouri. This cutter furnishes stems for the vase and is a good choice for both the cut flower garden and commercial application if used fresh for the local market.

Awards, Best Use & Distinctions
Best Fragrant®; Best Cut®; RHS Award of Garden Merit; Historic variety; general garden use; perennial border; cut flower garden; deer resistant; cutter in commercial use.

Basic Growing Requirements
Full Sun. Water as needed, sensitive to overwatering and waterlog conditions. Soil pH 6.5-7. Fertile, well-draining soil.
