BeeLoved® 'Fairfield'
Origin: (Hollingsworth, 1998)
Group: Herbaceous Hybrid
Bloom period: Early Midseason
Bloom week: 3 & 4
Flower form: Single
Height: Tall
USDA Zone: 3 to 7
Item number: 1819

Details:

The single flower opens brilliant ruby red. The color is more intense, nearly violet in cool spring climate. The pigments are quite persistent and the color fades only slightly until petals fall. Two rows of large petals surround a small cluster of pollen-baring yellow stamen and inconspicuous pale green carpels. The stigma is pale yellow, and the gynoecium is normal, fertile and will set seed. The large flower is nicely tailored and of an intense, eye-catching color combination. Numerous side buds extend the bloom season. The bush has an excellent plant habit, it is vigorous as well as fast to increase, growing a substantial, tall bush within a few years of planting. It is a prolific bloomer and covers the bush in a riot of color. The blooms are carried close to the canopy of dark green foliage for a neat, well-proportioned presentation. The leaves remain attractive for most of the growing season here in NW Missouri. Thick, strong stems hold the flowers erect and the bush keeps its form quite well against inclement weather events. Staking is typically not needed if grown under normal conditions. It is an outstanding variety for the flower border and is particularly effective in mass plantings.
