Itoh-group [Intersectional Hybrid]. Parentage: Lactiflora 'Gertrude Allen' x Lutea Hybrid 'Alice Harding'. Branch sport of our yellow flower seedling, 0926. No fertility has been noted.
Presumed near infertility: "The Itoh Hybrids have for long been known to be highly infertile. Recently, chromosome count findings show they are triploids, reason enough for the observations. Any seeds from Itohs pollination by either triploids or tetraploids are expected to include a share of tetraploids, possibly fertile. Suggestion: pollinate by one or another of their parental Lutea Hybrids or a mix thereof. Expect rare success, requires patience, but persistence is how we got the present generation of Itohs." (Don Hollingsworth, 2021)
Parentage: Lactiflora 'Gertrude Allen' x Lutea Hybrid 'Alice Harding'. Midseason to Late Midseason, Flowers 6 inches; Semi-double, white, cupped petals form a symmetrical bowl, mostly one per stem. Carpels light blue-green, with soft pink stigmas. Sheath milk-white. The foliage is typical of the hybrid group, intermediate in form between the parent groups; low medium bush (30 inches) is dark green, outfacing flowers are presented on strong stems extended beyond the foliage, both upward and outward. The plant appeared about 1990 as a branch sport of our yellow flower seedling, 925, parentage ('Gertrude Allen' x Lutea Hybrid 'Alice Harding'). By subsequent division the white flowered form is believed isolated, not a chimera. This one is now numbered 926 and the original 'Prairie Sunshine' has been assigned accession number 925. No fertility has been noted.
