Full double; medium to large size flower, opens dark crimson with a blackish sheen, but not dull. Well furnished with petals, an attractive flower of fine form and good substance; rich fragrance. Good plant habit, vigorous, good grower, makes a sizable, medium height bush. Wiry stems sag with rain in the opened flower. The presentation benefited by support; very worth the trouble, fabulous display in the landscape, yields good stems for cutting.

Awards, Best Use & Distinctions
Best Cut
®; Best Fragrant®; Heirloom; general garden and landscape use; perennial border, cut flower garden; cutter.

While it is an excellent variety with many favorable qualities, producing quality root divisions is challenging. Due to these cultivar specific limitations 'Philippe Rivoire' is among a group of peonies few companies are willing to propagate. It takes longer to grow these plants and processing the roots is difficult; frequently the roots appear less in quality when compare to roots from other cultivars.
