'Sunny Boy'
Sorry, Sold Out!
Orig.: (Laning, 1985)
Group: [Herbaceous Hybrid]
Bloom period: Early Midseason
Bloom week: 3
Flower form: Double
Height: Medium
Distinction: Rare
Item number: 5098

Details:

Full double; large size, bright yellow flower. Well petaled, excellent form and shape. Yellow filaments and fertile stamens usually visible. Reddish flares at the base of the petals provide for a radiating golden color effect. Occasional side buds extend the flowering season. Satisfying habit, free flowering, vigorous, but rather slow of increase. Attractive foliage, lush dark green, remains healthy throughout the summer. Medium height stems, leaning with the heavy flower, benefits from staking for best results. Excellent landscape subject and a standout in the perennials border.

Herbaceous hybrid. Parentage: Quad F3 x 'Moonrise'. It is a good yellow for its ancestry, two-stage double (flower-in-flower), stamens not completely changed to petals (progressive, rather than over-all transformation) and will make normal carpels in its less advanced flowers, as are typically produced on lesser stems or occasional side buds. It is an advanced generation hybrid having restored fertility, readily produces pollen and seeds, presumably tetraploid. In short it is a breeders dream.
