Herbaceous Hybrid. Parentage: records Lost. Fertile pollen.
Spring Sun - (Herbaceous Hybrid) - Don Hollingsworth, Maryville Missouri. January 2021. Hollingsworth Number 3442, parentage record lost, although the form and season of bloom suggests the legacy of Sunny Boy. The FULL DOUBLE flowers are typically heavy with petals, usually borne one per stem, opening at the cusp of the Early and Early Midseason periods (2nd - 3rd weeks). Flower size is typically 6 inches across, normally borne one per stem. Opening buds are a clear bright yellow, the color becoming lighter in sunlight. Plants are vigorous, stems sturdy, well clothed with foliage. Increase rate is especially good. New shoots upon emergence are bronze, maturing deep green. Both stems and leaflets tend to resist infestation by disfiguring pathogens, the plant appearance holding well through the season. Breeding opportunities are limited by the abundant petals. Normal carpels will be most likely found on reduced flowers, as on young plants or secondary stems. Anthers bearing fertile pollen will be found in a thin ring of stamens embedded in the petals. Awards: Seedling Certificate of Merit and Best Seedling, both at 2019 APS exhibition.
