Details:

Full double; large, opens cool ruby red. Many petaled, symmetrical and well-formed flower. Tall stems are leaning and require staking in the viewed landscape. Good foliage, deep green. This peony is rarely offered and quite rare.

Named for Mrs. A.S. Gowen who attended and finished school out east before moving to Minnesota. She enjoyed exhibiting peonies in the early 1930’s and beyond. She won the B.H. Farr Memorial Medal for the best specimen flower in the 1934 APS Exhibition with a bloom of ‘Hansina Brand’. In 1933 she was V.P. of the Minnesota Garden Flower Society and was a longtime member of the American Peony Society.
