Best Fragrant® 'Garden Lace'
Origin.: (Hollingsworth, 1992)
Group: Lactiflora
Bloom period: Midseason
Bloom week: 4 & 5
Flower form: Japanese
Height: Medium
USDA Zone: 2 to 8
Item number: 1853

Details:

The fragrant, Japanese form flower opens clean, medium pink. The pigmentation is more pronounced in cool spring climate. The color soon fades in the sun to light pink and eventually to blush, nearly white when petals drop. Two layers of broad petals surround a large cluster of lacy, light yellow staminodes. It is a neat, well-tailored flower with heavy substance that imparts a smooth, creamy quality throughout. The bush has a good plant habit, it is vigorous and increases well. It grows a dense, medium height bush within a few years of planting. The reliable and profuse bloomer is covered in a blanket of color. Abundant side buds enhance this effect and prolongs the bloom season. The stout, self-supporting stem carries the flowers erect, near the canopy of foliage. The bush keeps its shape remarkably well against inclement weather events, making it one of the most rainproof peonies available. The deep green foliage seems susceptible to fungal disease here in NW Missouri and warrants attention and care. Otherwise, it is a gem, adorable in the landscape and stunning in mass plantings.
